Verandahs – The Ultimate Retreat on Phillip Island

After each visit, I am becoming more and more fond of Phillip Island. Only a two-hour drive from Melbourne, it’s definitely a destination which warrants more than just a day trip. The island boasts some of Victoria’s best beaches, nature and a blossoming foodie scene rich in wineries, boutique coffee shops and cafes.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Verandah Retreat which is located in a quiet street in the heart of Phillip Island in Cowes (just a 10 minute stroll from the main street and a two minute walk to the beach). It’s the perfect spot for a summer coastal getaway and has all the creature comforts on your doorstep.

The two-storey chic Hamptons-style beach house is equipped with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two indoor living areas. The upper balcony is the perfect spot to relax on the banana lounge with a morning coffee. It is beautifully furnished and decorated throughout with hardwood floors, plantation shutters, sunken lounges, luxurious linens and wicker lounges.

A French cast iron fireplace takes centre stage in the main living room, where I can just imagine cosying up on the couch with a glass of red in the winter months. But in summer, the beautiful outdoor entertaining area is where you’ll want to be…

True to it’s name, the property has a gorgeous verandah and decked BBQ area which is perfect for entertaining. Whether you want to have a dinner in style around the large communal dining table, or just relax with a book in their hanging swing chair, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors and relax and rejuvenate.

For those wanting to relax at home, there is a selection of books, DVD’s, board games and playing cards. If you wish to explore the island, you’ll find a plethora of cafes, boutique shops and outdoor activities right on your doorstep.

The property is also pet friendly, so you don’t have to feel guilty and leave your pooch at home.

There is plenty of restaurants and cafes to visit in the local area but part of the appeal of Verandah’s is making the most of the alfresco area and ordering in. On arrival we feasted on a sumptuous gourmet grazing platter, prepared by Katie from The Pantry Phillip Island, laden with local Gippsland produce including both hard and soft cheeses, meats, and fresh baguettes.

For breakfast we enjoyed Verandah’s bed and breakfast experience from The Pantry Phillip Island so we could have a relaxed breakfast in the comfort of home. Just make sure you are hungry since you are in for a treat. The breakfast board is served with freshly baked bread from San Remo bakery, home-made muesli, croissants, fresh fruit juice, berries, yoghurt, tea and coffee and delivered fresh by The Pantry Phillip Island. Orders can be tailored to suit the group size and dietary requirements.

Our only regret was not being able to stay for longer!
