Frangos & Frangos, Daylesford Review

Sometimes life calls for a short break to recharge the batteries and re-energise the soul. Daylesford is the perfect spot to indulge the senses, with its plethora of luxurious day spas, local produce and boutique hotels.Only 115 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, you will feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

When I am craving a touch of romance and luxury, one of my favourite spots to stay in Daylesford is Frangos & Frangos. Hotel Frangos has twelve uniquely furnished and stylish rooms which have been meticulously designed and decorated with romance, intimacy and luxury in mind.

 Hotel & Facilities

Located in the heart of Daylesford you couldn’t get a better location than Frangos & Frangos which is nestled smack bang in the middle of the town’s shopping and eating heart, Vincent Street.

Hotel Frangos blends European antiquities with chic, modern and luxurious furnishings. Its quirky and eclectic style has endless imagination, almost reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Handcrafted artefacts, lush textures, stunning art and luxurious furnishing are all part the overall experience.

Whether you’re looking to have a nice romantic dinner or a casual breakfast, Frangos & Frangos has all your needs covered. Experience fine dining in the award-winning Jimmy’s Bar/Restaurant or enjoy the casual bohemian vibe of coffee or a long lunch with delicious woodfired pizzas at Cafe Koukla.

Indulge in the lavish Endota Day Spa for one of their luxurious treatments before retreating to the tranquil Mediterranean inspired courtyard ‘Agora’ in the summer months to soak up some sunshine with a cocktail or two.

The sitting room is an elegant space, equipped with plush armchairs and chaise lounges to rest your weary legs with a book.

The Room

The Rose Suite is the perfect room for a romantic getaway. Candy floss pink walls surround this junior suite with an antique circular king bed taking centre stage, piled high with plush pillow and faux fur. Above sits an impressive ceiling mirror and a lavish suspended chandelier.

The room has been furnished with love and detail. From the comfortable couch to Jim Frangos’ legendary ‘clothes tree’, the room design and decor has been executed brilliantly.

A light and airy large private bathroom features a luxurious free-standing bath, separate shower and toiletries.

If a pink hued room isn’t your cup of tea, other must try rooms are the ‘Alpha’ – a  chic large king room fitted with a apacious en-suite featuring a black spa bath or the ‘Terrace’  complete with a Juliet style  balcony overlooking the rolling hills of Daylesford. What I love the most about Hotel Frangos is that each room has a unique personality.

A complimentary daily newspaper and a la carte breakfast is available in each room.

Dining

The award-winning Jimmy’s Bar and Dining room at Frangos & Frangos showcases the region’s finest and freshest seasonal produce. The menu, designed by Head Chef Albert Li is largely contemporary Australian cusine intertwined with some Asian influences.

A two course ($55 per person) and three course ($70 per person) menu is available at Jimmy’s Restaurant which is superb value. Or if you’re feeling extra indulgent, try their chef’s degustation (8 courses for $120).

Jimmy’s Bar is a perfect spot for a pre or post dinner cocktail or too. With a focus on local ingredients, Jimmy’s cocktails are inspired by the seasons. The berry and rose mojito is full of wonderful summery aromas and tastes to tantalise the tastebuds. The cocktail is packed full of fresh strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, white rum, lemon juice, grand marnier, sparkling wine and a drizzling of rose syrup.

The wine list has a distinct regional focus with some international guests making special appearances.
