Summer Menu Launch at La Svolta, Prahran

It’s heating up in Melbourne which means hungry Melbourners are trading cosy dining rooms with alfresco dining and rooftop bars.  La Svolta in Prahran has quickly cottoned on to this trend, by launching their new outdoor dining space and summer menu.

On a balmy Melbourne evening, fellow foodies retreated to the rear of the characterful restaurant in Cecil Street where we were greeted by free-flowing sparking, negronis and plenty of authentic Italian food.

Owners, Valerio and Pino, from Tuscany and Palerno respectively have brought a slice of Italy to Melbourne by showcasing the very best of Italian cuisine from their homeland. Based on regionally inspired family recipes, many of their dishes have been passed down through the generations.

Valerio and Pino say they are inspired by “a dream, a taste in our mouths from the homeland … and we set about recreating that flavour and deliver that feeling onto the plate.”

We were treated to a lavish array of starters including wafer thin prosciutto, moreish arancini balls and succulent prawn skewers.

But perhaps La Svolta’s biggest claim to fame is their pizzas which are made the traditional Napoli way. La Svolta is one of only nine Australian restaurants accredited by the Naples official pizza body, Associazione Versace Pizza Napoletana, ensuring their pizza’s are topped with only the finest and freshest ingredients, either grown locally or imported from Italy, and made using traditional techniques with love.

The pizzas are made using the finest ingredients and traditional techniques, all fresh from the woodfire oven which takes centre stage in the bustling kitchen.

And what Italian meal is complete without a nutella dessert pizza?

When it became a bit chilly we retreated indoors for an apertivo, soaking up the ambience in La Svolta’s rustic surrounds.

Overall a great evening full of fun, good food and wine. Take me back to Italy!
