Restaurant Review – Dirty Burger Kentish Town

Kentish Town is getting trendier by the minute and so are the restaurants. Dirty Burger is the latest addition to Highgate Road, opened in 2012 by global members club Soho House.

Dirty Burger looks more like a corrugated iron shack than a restaurant. For a tight space built over a car park, it’s done brilliantly. Corrugated iron walls surround this tiny venue which can only fit 20 people.

We perched by the rear window on bar stools watching the sun go down while sipping a pint of Camden Town brew. Dirty Burger shares a car park with LA Fitness so it was a little difficult to escape the odd death stare by the neighbouring gym worshippers ( I’m sure they are just jealous).

The menu is small and specialist. For food there is only one burger on the menu, the highly acclaimed Dirty Burger of course. Yet another restaurant that has decided to do one thing and to do it well. There are also two sides on the menu – crinkle cut fries and onion chips. For drinks – a selection of beers, ciders, sodas and shakes!

Before the unveiling...

The service was similar to a fish and chips takeaway store. No table service but very efficient. The reasonably priced Dirty Burger (£5.50)  consisted of a beef patty with a hint of American mustard, tomato, pickle, iceberg lettuce all in a glazed bun. It may not look pretty but it tasted sensational. The bun was fresh and soft, to the point it nearly fell apart in my hands, especially with a good wallop of tomato ketchup and mustard. It’s not called a dirty burger for nothing! The aged patty, cooked medium had a great texture and flavour. The burgers have a 15% fat content which is actually a lot less greasy than your average 20%. The triple cooked crinkle cut chips (£2.50) were a definite winner and were lightly salted with a real crispness.

The unveiling!

To my delight I have discovered that Dirty Burger is also open for breakfast, serving your choice of an egg and bacon or sausage and egg roll with unlimited filter tea and coffee for just £3.50. Bargain.

Despite the hype, Dirty Burger definitely met my expectations. It’s certainly worth getting your hands dirty for.

Opening Monday – Friday from 7am. Weekends from 9am.

Tips for fellow foodies:

1. If you are hungry make sure you get two sides

2. Avoid the bar stools if you can, if you have short legs like me they are not very comfortable

3. Don’t get lost. Google Maps pointed me in the wrong direction. Just look for Pizza East and follow the lane into the car park.

ENJOY!

Great review! I found that a burger & side wasn’t quite enough for me so good tip to get 2 sides! I think the burger could be a tad bigger but maybe I am just a pig! ; )

Ha ha, well that makes me a pig too! Glad you enjoyed it. Have you tried Patty and Bun in Marylebone?
